'Sea Lions'!

(an old cartoon that i had forgotten to post earlier). as we all gear up to save our National animal from exticntion, we must remember not to ignore the second Indian big cat, the Asiatic lion.Gir National park, Gujarat, is the only place in the world where the Asiatic Lion, Panthera leo persica, is found. once numerous, there numbers had gone down to just 13, thanks to hunting by the royal families in the 18th and the 19th centuries. today, the species is safe from the royal guns but it faces grave peril from inbreeding, poaching, habitat loss and conflicts with humans. although a lot has been talked about the relocation of a part of the 350+ population of Gir to Kuno wildlife sanctuary, Madhya Pradesh, no concrete steps have been taken yet. the Asiatic Lion still remains torn between conservation efforts and political conficts.
